CAW634 Bass – 120Hz 24dB/oct Low Pass

As before, I’m reviewing the Morel CAW634 strictly for the bass. The Swallow-TPC satellite takes care of the mid/high section. A 24dB/oct electronic crossover divides the CAW634 with the Swallow-TPC.

I was quite surprised when I heard the CAW634. The bass is not too bad. It’s punchy and there’s even texture. Not something that I was expecting. It is not as tight and fast as I would like but at least it’s not junk.

My anger with the Morel CAW634 woofer came when I measured a Qts of 0.59. Morel specs clearly states Qts=0.42. If I had wanted a Qts of 0.59, I could have bought a Dayton or something. At most, it’ll cost $50. This Morel CAW634 cost me $154.

At least, during playback, there are some redeeming qualities but for the price, there are better woofers. Frankly, I’m very disappointed with this CAW634. I was impressed enough by their tweeters (MDT29 and CAT378) that I forked out $154 for their 6″ woofer. Maybe Morel should just keep making tweeters only and stay away from woofers.
